Historic Significance: According to the 1829 land records and a current headstone located in Wade Cemetery, the land once belonged to Mr. Robert Henly Courts Wade (1785-1830) and his wife Nancy Davis (Wade) who were among the first white settlers in DeKalb County from Tobacco M.D. (Charles Co.) some time after the signing of the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1821. A search of all census records for DeKalb Co., Gwinnett Co., and Charles Co. M.D. produced no names, but it is known that a lot of settlers didn't live to the next census due to death from epidemics or natural causes. Cultural Significance: Mr. Robert Henly Courts Wade (1785-1830) and his wife Nancy Davis (Wade) were the first white settlers to own the property. Some families can be found in the Gwinnett Census since DeKalb was formed in 1822. There are many fieldstones and unnamed stones throughout Wade Cemetery, along with two table headstones, both which are broken (Table 1 , Table 2). Over all view 1 Over all view 2 Over all view 3 The cemetery is extremely over grown and after the preliminary review, it has been discovered that there are additional, older burials in the tree area on two sides of the cemetery. We are in the process of trying to locate descendents of Wade Cemetery for exact family history since this cemetery has most of the qualifications of a Historic state and Federal cemetery. Pirce G.W.
