D. Mitchell Dies At Home in Decatur Edwin D. Mitchell, 71, retired railroad engineer, died Friday night at his home 224 Greenwood Cir., Decatur. He was an engineer for Seaboard Airline Railroad before his retirement in 1940. He had been in railroading about 48 years and with Seaboard about 30. A native of Randolph County, Ala. he had lived in the Atlanta area about 36 years. He was a member of the Decatur First Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows. He was also a member of the National Assn of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, Unit 39, and an honorary lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Essie Bryan; three sons Lt. Col. Bryan B. Mitchell, USMC, Quantico, Va; Edwin T. Mitchell, New Orleans, La; William S. Mitchell, Chamblee, and three daughters, Mrs. Winfred Burrell, Rensalear, Ind., and Mrs. R. J. Haban and Miss Elizabeth Mitchell, Decatur. Funeral arrangements will be announced by A. S. Turner & Sons. Atlanta Journal 22 June 1958 9D Mitchell--The friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin D. Mitchell, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Bryant (sic)B. Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin T. Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. William S. Mitchell, Mrs. R. J. Haban, Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Burrell, Miss Elizabeth Mitchell and the 12 grandchildren are invited to attend the funeral services of Mr. Edwin D. Mitchell this (Sunday) afternoon at 3 o'clock at Trinity Chapel. Dr. Dick H. Hall will officiate. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. A. S. Turner & Sons. Resolution First Baptist Church Decatur, Georgia Whereas Brother Edwin D. Mitchell, a long time member of our church, passed away on Friday, June 20, 1958, his funeral being held at Trinity Chapel on Sunday Afternoon, June 22, followed by burial in Magnolia Cemetery, and Whereas Brother Mitchell, along with his family, have long been beloved members of our fellowship, therefore be it Resolved that we the members of the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, express to Mrs. Mitchell, to their six children, and to their 12 grandchildren, our sincere sympathy in the passing of this good man. We commend to them the Word of God which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our pathway, and the assurances of the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit with those who mourn. We assure them of our prayers and of our desire to be of any possible help in these days of sadness. And be it further Resolved that copies of these resolutions be given to Mrs. Mitchell, to their three daughters, Mrs. W. R. Haban, Mrs. Winfred Burrell, and Miss Elizabeth Mitchell, and to their three sons, Lt. Col. Bryant (sic) B. Mitchell, Mr. Edwin T. Mitchell, and Mr. William S. Mitchell; and that a copy be given to the clerk of this church, and that a copy be spread upon the permanent records of this board.
