James Crummidy was sentenced to be hanged in Eastman, Ga., last Friday but when
the Sheriff went for him he refused to go and drew a knife with which he stabbed
himself several times with fatal results.  Gov. McDaniel was telegraphed the
situation but before an answer could be received the law had to take it (sic)
course and the man was hanged.  It was uncertain whether the man died from his
own hands or the work of the executioneer (sic).
