A. Pierce Funeral services for H. A. Pierce, 65, who died suddenly Sunday night at his home in Empire were held Wednesday afternoon at the Empire Baptist Church. Burial was in the Bowers Cemetery. Elder D. Homer Yarn, Elder Peter J. Ricks, Elder Ed Yarn, Elder J. B. Parker, Elder A. M. Bates, and Rev. Hinson Purser officiated. Mr. Pierce was born in Pulaski County the son of the late W. H. and Mary Frances McPhail Pierce. He had lived in Empire most of his life where he engaged in the mercantile business. He was Justice of the Peace and was an Elder in the Church of the Later Day Saints and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cherry Phillips Pierce; four sons, H. C. Pierce of Macon, Major George B. Pierce with the Us Army in Japan, H. O. Pierce of Empire, and M. A. Pierce of Helena; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Ross of Empire, Mrs. Omar Lancaster of Hawkinsville, and Mrs. Ernest Ramage of Collins; one brother, John J. Pierce of Palatka, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. T. B. Haynes of Nahunta, Mrs. Maggie Howell of Griffin, Mrs. Walter Edge of Melbourne, Fla., Mrs. Freeman Brown of Dudley, and Miss Inez Pierce of Macon. Honorary pallbearers wer: R. T. Ragan, David Stokes, W. H. Griffin, J. T. Edmondson, G. B. Hill, Luther Horne, Oliver Purser, A. P. Scarborough, J. W. Fountain Sr., D. B. Fountain, R. L. Fordham, Samson Parker, Reno Fordham, George Bowman Jr., Dewey Mullis, Hardy Hall, Lawton Hall, Pete Perkins, and Lowell Bates. Active pallbearers were: Charles Wilson, Bernice Perkins, Tullie Holland, Lawton Fountain, Aaron Perkine, and Rufus L. Fountain. Fisher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
