Pierce, 70 of Empire, who died Monday morning in the Hawkinsville hospital following an illness of several weeks were held Wednesday afternoon from the Chapel of the Empire Church of Latter Day Saints. The services were conducted by Elder Homer Yarn and Elder Ed Yarn. Burial was in the family lot in the Bowers Cemetery. Mrs. Pierce was born in Dodge County, the daughter of the late Aaron C. and Margaret Rogers Phillips, and had lived all of her life in Empire. She and her husband, the late H. A. Pierce, have operated a mercantile business in Empire for a number of years. Survivors include four sons, Major George B. Pierce of Fort Dix, H. C. Pierce of Macon, H. O. Pierce of Empire, and M. A. Pierce of McRae; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Ross of Empire, Mrs. Omar Lancaster of Hawkinsville, and Mrs. Ernest Ramage of Empire; two brothers, Walter C. Phillips of Athens and Vance Phillips of Savannah; one sister, Mrs. Jim Strickland of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Additional Comments: Cherrie was born 27 Jul 1885.
