Willcox, 85, of Eastman, was held Tuesday at the graveside in Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Jerry Peele officated. Mr. Willcox died January6, in the Dodge County Hospital A lifelong resident of Dodge County, Mr. Willcox was born in the Union Community on October 29, 1911, the son of the late James Buchan Willcox and Mattie Thompson Willcox. He was a retired building contractor. a 11930 graduate of Middle Georgia College, Mr. Willcox was a defense contractor in Puerto Rico during World War II and worked in the combat zone of the Aleutian Islands during 1944-45. He operateda building supply store and was a contractor in Eastman until his retirement in 1977. From 1971-81, Mr. Willcox served on the Dodge County Hospital Board. Following his retirement, Mr. Willcox interest turned to family history and the restoration of family cemeteries in Dodge copunty. In addition to working on the restoration of the Old Willcox Burying Ground near Rhine, he also restored his ancestral cemeteries in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Mr. Willcox also restored the plots in the Woodlawn Cemetery of William Pitt Eastman, founder of Eastman; and James M. Buchan, founder of Dodge County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline (Polly) Willcox of Eastman, one sister, Mattie Margaret Lowery of Hazelhurst; Two brothers, William Norman Willcox of Hawkinsville; and Thomas Jerome Willcox of Eastman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home was in charge arrangements.
