She died July 18, 1937 in Laurens County, GA. Olivia was the first of six children born to Rufus and Sarah Robertson. She received her teaching certificate from the Georgia Southwestern College. She was a teacher and princpal with different schools in Dooly and Laurens Counties in Georgia. Olivia was a teacher at Union and Mars Hill Schools in Dooly County. Both of her children were taught by her in a one room school house with her other students. Olivia's nickname was Livy. Olivia enjoyed opera, classical music, and loved to read. The 1920 Dooly County Census taken in January shows Olivia "Liby" (age 20), married, could read and write, no occupation, living on Pinehurst/Finnedly Road. In the same household were her husband, Horace Spivey (age 27), renting their farm, a farmer and William Douglas Spivey (age 11 months), son. On the same road within a few farms were Olivia's uncles, William Harp and John Harp with their families. The 1930 Federal Census, taken on April 9th, shows that Olivia (age 30), her husband, Horace (age 37), and her children, Douglas (age 11) and Evelyn (age 8) were renting a farm at $200 per month on Vienna-Hawkinsville Road. The census showed that Olivia was 18 years old and her husband, Horace, was 26 years old when they first married. It also showed that she and both her parents were born in Georgia. She was employed as a teacher at day school. Her two children, Douglas and Evelyn were attending school. On August 5, 1932, Olivia gave birth to a baby boy, Horace Gould Spivey, Jr., who died on August 14, 1932. This baby is buried at the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Olivia died after surgery for a raptured appendix at the Coleman Hospital in Dublin, Georgia on a Sunday afternoon of July 18, 1937. Prior to her death, she had been living in Dublin, Georgia for the last four years with her husband and children. Her obituary in the Dublin Newspaper stated that she had been living at 509 N. Lawrence Street in Dublin, GA; she was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church, and a principal at Harmony school. Her funeral was held on Tuesday, July 20, 1937 at the Harmony Church near Pinehurst, with the Reverend R. W. Eubanks of Dublin conducting the services. The Lord's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The front page article in the Vienna News article read: Mrs. Spivey Passes To Her Reward...After Operation Complicated by Pneumonia Claims Life Pinehurst Woman...Mrs. Olivia Margaret Spivey, for several years a teacher in Dooly County schools and member of a respected and prominent family of this county, passed away Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in a Dublin hospital following a major operation complicated by development of Pneumonia. Mrs. Spivey was a daughter of Mr. R.E. Robertson and Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Harp Robertson, of near Pinehurst, and grew to womanhood in that county, where she taught school prior to her removal to Dublin about four years ago. While living in the Laurens County city, she was principal of Harmony School. Mrs. Spivey was a woman of many feminine graces and possessed sterling traits of character that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, and was a member of the Baptist church, was faithful to the tenets of her religion. She leaves a wide ring of relatives and friends who are grieved that her life has been so short and feels that an irreplacable loss has been sustained. NOTE: I feel she is buried in the unmarked grave in the Harp/Robertson plot at the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Dooly County, GA. I have her death certificate showing her date of birth, place of burial. I have installed a grave marker for Olivia; the inscription reads: Olivia Margaret Robertson Spivey, Born November 9, 1899, Died: July 18, 1937; Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and teacher. I also installed a grave marker for her infant son Horace, who is buried next to her. The inscription for his marker reads: Horace Gould Spivey, Jr.; Born: August 5, 1932; Died: August 14., 1932; Infant son of Olivia Robertson Spivey and Horace G. Spivey. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery is located off of state route 230 from Unadilla, GA. Olivia Margaret married Horace Gould Spivey on April 14, 1918 in Laurens County, GA. Horace Gould (parents Hardy Smith Spivey and M. Elizabeth Smith) was born January 20, 1893 in Rockledge, GA. He died November 12, 1961 in Laurens County, GA.
