Hall of said State and County, desiring to avail himself of the Pension Act (Section 1254, Code), hereby submits his proofs, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? W. A. J. Hall, Vienna, Dooly Co., Georgia 2. How long and since when have you been a resident of this State? All of my life, except when in the army 3. When and where were you born? In 1841 Houston Co., Georgia 4. When and where and in what company and regiment did you enlist or serve? 18th day of June 1861 at Marshallville Macon Co Ga in Company "C" 12th Ga Volunteers 5. How long did you remain in such company and regiment? Until 2nd Day of April 1865. I was captured on this day at Petersburg, Va and taken to Point Lookout and then discharged or released on June 28th 1865. 6. For how long a period did you discharge regular military duly? 4 years 7. When, where and under what circumstances were you discharged from service: Were you with your command at this time? I was paroled at Point Lookout on 28th Day of June 1865, I was held as a prisoner of war until this date, I was captured at Petersburg Va on the 2nd. 8. What is your present occupation? I work on farm when able 9. How much can you earn (gross) per annum by your own exertions or labor? Not over $50.00 10.What has been your occupation since 1865? Farming 11. Upon which of the following grounds do you base your application for pension, viz: first "age and poverty," second, "infirmity and poverty," or third, "blindness and poverty"? 1st & 2nd grounds 12. If upon the first ground, state how long you have been in such condition that you could not earn your support? If upon the second, give a full and complete history of the infirmity and its extent? If on the third, state whether you are totally blind and when and where you lost your sight? Have not been able to earn my support in Six years, I suffer with Heart Disease, Rheumatism, Dyspepsia and general Debility. 13. What property, effects or income do you possess, and its gross value? None at all 14. What property, effects or income did you possess in 1894, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1898, and 1899, and what disposition, if any, did you make of same? I did own an old horse and buggy in 1898. This I have had to dispose of to pay my debts. 15. In what County did you reside during those years, and what property did you then return for taxation? Dooly Co. Ga 16. How were you supported during the years 1898 and 1899? Principally by my children 17. How much did your support cost for each of these years and what portion did you contribute thereto by your own labor or income? About $60.00, Possibly about one fourth 18. What was your employment during 1898 and 1899? What pay did you receive in each year? Had no regular employment. Very little. 19. Have you a family? If so, who composes such family? Give their means of support? Have they a homestead? Yes, wife and 2 children with me, Have no means of support except their labor. 20. Are you receiving a pension? Hargrave Ordinary, of Dooly County Page 2 Affidavit of Physicians State of Georgia ) Dooly County ) Personally came before me Thos. J. McArther and W. S. Howell, both known to me as reputable physicians of said County, who being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined carefully W. A. J. Hall, applicant for pension under Setion 1254, Code, and after such personal examination say that his precise physical condition is as follows: Dilation of heart, Dyspepsia, Enlarged Prostate, Rheumatism, Cystites and general dibility. They further say on oath that the physical condition of applicant renders him unable to labor at any work or cally sufficient to earn a support for himself, and that we have no interest in said pension being allowed. Wiggins, a reputible citizen of said Co., having been presented as a witness in support of the application of W. A. J. Hall for or under Section 1254 of Code of Ga, after being sworn answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? W. L. Wiggins, Unadilla Dooly Co. Ga 2. Are you acquainted with W. A. J. Hall the applicant; if so, how long have you known him? Yes Fifty years or more 3. Where does he reside, and how long and since when has he been a resident of this State? Dooly Co. Ga Fifty years to my knowledge 4, 5. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist, and how do you know? He enlisted at Marshallville Ga in June 1861. Co. "C" 12th Reg. Ga Vols. A good solder. I belonged to same Regiment 6. How long did he perform regular military duty? He served until captured at Petersburg Va on the 2nd Day of Apl 1865. He was a good soldier. I was present at the surrender, but Hall had been captured and I did not meet him untill after close of the war, when he was parolled and sent home in July 1865. 7. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in 1896, 1897, 1898, 1899? Has none. I have lived near him for Eight or ten years. He is a very poor man. 8. (Same as 7 above) He owned none. 9. How much did applicant earn? No - had none to ______ (cannot read) 10. He worked in farm when able, His physical condition is bad. 11. He is not able to support himself by any kind of labor because he has heart trouble and other conditions. 12. By his sons and family 13. Very little, if any 14. He is old broke down no account. Hargrave, Ordy Dooly Co. ) Page 4 For Applicants Heretofore Allowed Pensions State of Georgia ) Dooly County ) Personally appears W. A. J. Hall of Dooly County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said County and State, and has resided in said State continuously ever since the 26 day of Feby 1841; that he is 60 years old and by occupation a farmer that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States (or of the State of Ga) during the war between the States, and served for the term of 4 years in Company C, of 12th Regiment of Ga Volls; that his physical condition is as follows: Heart disease and Rheumatism that his property consists of the following items None of the value of None Dollars, that by reason of his physical condition and poverty he is unable to support himself by his own exertion or labor, and that he receives no pension but the one herein applied for. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved December 15th, 1894, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1902.
