It stated the following: Funeral Services Sunday At Harmony Church for Dooly County Farmer Rufus Erastus Robertson, probably one of the best known and most loved farmers of Dooly County, died at his home on Route 2, Pinehurst at 7:15 Saturday morning of heart trouble after being confined to his home and bed for about a week. He had been suffering from his heart for four or five years, but it was only a few days ago that his ailment became so acute as to prevent him from going about his affairs. Mr. Robertson had been a resident of Dooly County for 37 years, having been born at Knoxville, GA. He was Chief of police at Unadilla, Ga for several years, and then engaged in farming for the past 18 years he had resided at his home place, where he died. Mr. Robertson was one of the progressive farmers of the county, employing such methods as were best fitted to his type of agricultural operations and had attained prestige in his community and the county which made him a leader in all walks of life. He was particularly interested in the school affairs of his community and exerted his every effort toward the betterment of his community and its people. Mr. Robertson's favorite description of himself was "the meanest man in Dooly County," but he refuted this verbal description by his many acts of neighborliness, charity and goodwill toward his fellowman and his community, and his funeral was problably the most largely attended of any in the county in recent years, a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives attending to pay a last tribute to a man who had been a friend and neighbor to them. Mr. Robertson was 63 years old at the time of his death and had reared a large family by which he had done a father's part to the very best of his ability. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Harmony Church, of which he was a member, and were conducted by Rev. Raymond L. Harvey, who paid glowing tribute to the life and character of this good and useful citizen. "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" and "Dear Daddy, He's Gone" were sung by Adrian Peavy, Herbert Peavy, Derward Howard, and Mrs. Herman Sangster. Accompaniments were played by Mrs. Derward Howard. Interment took place at Harmony Cemetery with Lee Williams, Felton McCrary, John McCrary, Frank Bowen, John Draughon, and Carl Lewis serving as active pallbearers, while an honorary escort was composed of V. L. Harris, Ben Walton, L. M. Peavy, A. M. Wilson, Jim Whitehead, J. G. Spradley, W. E. Shivers, Will Roberts, L. S. Wilson, and J. L. Cross. Akin Funeral Home, of Vienna, was in charge of funeral arrangements. Mr. Robertson is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Robertson, one son, Thomas Henry Robertson, and five daughters, Mrs. Horace Spivey, Vienna; Mrs. Lessie Bowen, Mrs. E. F. cross, Misses Gladys Ruth, and Agnes Winifred Robertson. Four brothers, Henry and N. T. Robertson, of Crosby, Texas; Emmett Robertson, of Ideal, and J. J. Robertson, of Covington, also survive.
