Sangster Killed by Oscar Blow. Blow and Sheriff Bennett Both Die From Wounds In Gun Battle Vienna, May 20* – Two men are dead and the sheriff of Dooly County lies with his intestines pierced five times by a bullet as a result of tragic series of shooting events Wednesday. The dead: P.P. Sangster, Oscar Blow, Sheriff Bennett Early Wednesday morning Oscar Blow shot and killed P.P. Sangster, both planters of this county. As soon as he killed Sangster, Blow unhitched Sangster’s horse from his buggy and rode the animal to his father’s home. About an hour later Sheriff Bennett,, accompanied by E.C. Taylor and B.F. Cason, followed him in an automobile. The party overtook Blow just as he reached home. Blow dismounted from his horse and using the animal as a shield, began firing under its stomach at the sheriff’s party. Two bullets hit the sheriff, one in the thigh and the other in the abdomen. Sheriff Bennett returned the fire, emptying his revolver at Blow and killing him instantly. The shooting was the outcome of a suit between Blow and Sangster in regard to Sangster’s daughter. The suit was to have been tried in Dooly Superior Court the same day and the two men were on their way here. They were trying to reach some agreement when Blow became angry and shot Sangster six times, killing him instantly. It is said that Blow had agreed to marry the daughter of Sangster while they were here, but the terms were not satisfactory to Blow, apparently, and it is believed that this lead to the shooting of Sangster by Blow. Sheriff Bennett died Friday night. His death made the third victim of Wednesday’s tragedy. Sheriff Bennett was loved by all who knew him in Vienna and Dooly County generally, and his death has caused a shadow to pass over the whole section.
