Janine Elizabeth Drake There were a few errors in the followin obituaries, one mixed up my grandmother with her sister, but I wanted to keep it as it was printed in the "Albany Herald" -------------- Obituary of George Drake (Grannie’s brother) Born 1897 (was 14 when Grannie born) Dated: 12-20-57 12-23-57 George D. Drake 60, of 201 Hill St. Died Friday night after lengthy illness. He was born in Albany and lived her all his life. He was a veteran of World War I. Attended Byne Memorial Baptist church and was a member of Masonic Lodge 24, F&AM. For many years he owned a grocery business. Surviving are his wife the former Katie Kolbie: two sons, Marion T. Drake of New York (another misprint!) and Roy Drake of Albany; A grandson, Victor D. Drake of Albany; two sisters, Mr. Carl Albritton of Quincy Florida and Mr. E.C. Paul (obviously a misprint!) of Pasadena, California. Funeral services for George D. Drake will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Woodall Funeral Home. The Rev. E. I. Lewis will officiate and interment will follow in Oak View Cemetery. -------------------- Obituary of Kate Drake (08/09/65 08/10/65) Mrs. Kate Drake Succumbs Here Mrs. Kate Drake, widow of George W. Drake, died today at Phoebe Putney Hospital a few hours after suffering an attack at her residence, 515 Pine Bluff Rd. She was a native of Camilla, but had lived in Albany most of her life and was a member of First Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Marion Traube of Alaconte, Spain; a son Ray Drake of Albany, and one grandson, Victor Dobner of Albany. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Leonard Cochran, pastor of First Methodist Church, Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Chapel Funeral Home. Residents of Marion’s Trailer Court will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be in Oakview Cemetery. ------------- Obituary of W. E. Drake. (01/23/57 - 01/24/57) born 1864 or 1867? Funeral services for William E. Drake of Cordele Road, who died Wednesday morning in Phoebe Putney Hospital, were held today at the Byne Memorial Baptist church, with the Ref. Hugh E. Brinkly of Quincy, Fla., and the Rev. C. R. Pittard officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Drake owned and operated the Drake Vault Company in Albany for 27 years. He was retired at the time of death. Surviving are his wife, the former Della Powell of Crisp county: a son, George Drake of Albany; Two daughters Mrs. Elizabeth Albritton of Quincy, Florida and Mrs. C. C. Paul of Pasadena, Calif.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Dr. Andrew Mooney, John Duke, Leo Strawder, Bob Horn, R.L. Hall, Robert Heir, Johnny Cox and E. F. Mote. The Woodall Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. -------------- Obituary for Mrs. W. E. Drake Dated April 15, 1949, Friday April, 16, 1949 Saturday Mrs. W. E. Drake Dies at Home. Mrs. W. E. Drake 207 Oglethorpe Ave., died early this morning at her home. She is survived by her husband: two daughters, Mrs. E. C. Albritton and Mrs. C. C. Paul of Albany, a son, George D. Drake of Albany; and three grandsons and two granddaughters. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 A.m. in the chapel of the Woodall Funeral Home by Dr. Leonard A. Leonard, Born 1864 Died 12-10-1939 ---------------- (Annie Leonard?) Papa Drake’s sister. Katherine Elizabeth Drake. Paper dated December 11, 1939 Mrs. J. A. Leonard Mrs. J. A. Leonard 75, died early yesterday morning at her home 408 Residence Avenue following a three day illness. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon in Byne Memorial Baptist Church. The service was conducted by the Rev. G. A. Cooper, pastor. Interment followed in Oakview Cemetery. The following were pall bearers: Active Messrs. R.J. Bacon, W.S. Newsome, J.H. Duke, J.A. Banks, David Dekle, and R.E. Davis: Honorary, Wallace Crouch, J. C. Morgan, O.B. Bozeman, R.R. Turner. J.M. Kingsley and I.B. Campell. Mrs. Leonard was a charter member of Byne Memorial Baptist church and was very active in church work. She was beloved by an unusually wide circle of friends. She is survived by a brother Mr. W. E. Drake: a nephew, Mr. George Drake, both of Albany: and two nieces, Mrs. Carl Albritton of Quincy, Fla. and Mrs. S. E. Battson of Cordele. They have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. Albritton August 25, 1911 - February 1, 1995 Janie Elizabeth Drake Albritton 83 of Quincy died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995 in New Orleans, La. The service was Saturday, Feb. 4, 1995 at Santa Clara Baptist Church, in Quincy, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Quincy A native of Albany, Georgia, she lived in Quincy since 1964. She was a homemaker and member of Santa Clara Baptist Church in Quincy. Survivors include one son, George Albritton of Tallahassee, a daughter, Martha Jean Ferrera of New Orleans, La; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Sasser-Morgan-McClellan Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements. ----------------------------- Waddie Everett Drake is my great-grandfather, and his wife is burried next to him and so is his sister, Mrs Leonard, and also one of his sons and his daughter-in-law. Mom says she thinks that there is also one of Papa Drake's family there too, but she does not know who. There are several graves that belonged to the family. They are unmarked, and the metal grave markers have long since been gone. They are at the foot of an above ground mauseleum (sp?) /tomb, and the plots are bricked around the family's plot about 2-3 ft high. Drake, Waddie Everette born 1870?
