G. DANIEL Brother S. G. Daniel was an Englishman born in England, but the time and place of his birth are not known. He emigrated to the United States in early life and at some time located in Augusta, as a common laborer. He had great thirst for knowledge, but was so embarrassed by poverty that he could not spare time for study. He arranged with Rev. W. T. Brantley to recite private lessions to him during the recess in his labors, between the hours of twelve and two o'clock in the day. He would also labor until nine o'clock at night in order to support his family, and then study until two o'clock in the morning. By this indefatigable labor he acquired a good education, and prepared himself for great usefulness in the ministry. His first pastorate was at Milledgeville, Georgia, which church he served for about eight years, and was then called to the charge of the First Baptist Church in Savannah. After serving this church for several years, he accepted the care of the church at Albany. He subsequently engaged in business at Macon where he continued until his death. He was a preacher of ability, and eloquent and earnest speaker and an enterprising and industrious man, a devout and laborious Christian, and by his consecration and labors greatly endeared himself to his Christian friends and co-laborers in the Bethel Association.
