L. Davis Dies Suddenly - Founder of Southern Singing Convention Suffers Fatal Heart Attack" Mr. A. L. Davis, 55, of 911 Pine avenue died suddenly yesterday afternoon at his residence following a heart attack. News of his death shocked the community where he had many friends. Mr. Davis had complained of not feeling well during the morning and had just returned from a doctors office and gone into his bedroom to lie down when he suffered the fatal heart attack. He had not been in good health for some time. Well known for his activities in connection with the Southern Singing Convention, of which he was president, Mr. Davis had friends throughout the Southeast. He was prominent in this convention as well as in other singing convention in Georgia. A few years ago he organized the Southern Singing Convention at a well attended sing in the Auditorium. It has met every summer since then. Ten years ago Mr. Davis moved here from Waycross. He was a traveling salesman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Albany. Besides his wife, Mr. Davis is survived by five children, Mrs. Gladys Hawkins, of Miami, Mr. A. H. Davis of Lake City, Fla., Mrs. Jean May Davis of Atlanta, Miss Myrtis Davis of Albany and Mr. Roy H. Davis of Albany; three sisters, Mrs David Matthews of Hogansville, Mrs. Leona Caswell of Roopville, Mrs. Irene Schwa???????????????? brothers, Ed Davis of Thomasville, Mr. Byron Davis of Thomasville, Mr. Hamp Davis of Thomasville, Mr. C. V. Davis of Folkston. They have the deep sympathy of the community in their bereavement. The funeral was held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the chapel of the Albany Undertaking Company. the service was conducted by the Rev. G. A. Cooper, pastor of the Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Doerun Cemetery. The following were pall bearers: Messrs, E. H. Heidt, W. B. McBride, J. C. Findley, Harry Metcalf, John Storey and J. A. Edge.
