He attended Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and the University of Kentucky at Lexington. Dr. Bays graduated from dental school at Emory University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. Dr. Bays was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was Founder and President of Dialysis Ethics, was a past president of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. A commercial and instrument rated pilot, Dr. Bays amassed over 5000 hours in the air without an accident, and he was a member of the Flying Dentists. Dr. Bays was a one of the charter founders of Deerfield Windsor School, and was a former member of the Albany Exchange Club. An accomplished blacksmith, Dr. Bays built the blacksmith exhibit at the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee, GA. The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern Friday, February 6, 2004 from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 7, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Albany. The graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM at the Moxley Methodist Church Cemetery in Jefferson County Georgia. Arlene Mullens, Dick Craft, Larry Bays and Jody Bays will officiate.
