Rev. Rayferd “Ray” Bowman, 81, of Albany died Friday, January 26, 2007. His 
funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, January 29, 2007 at Byne Memorial Baptist 
Church. The internment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens. Dr. William H. 
Simms III will officiate. A native of Eden AL, Rev. Bowman was a 1958 graduate 
of Samford University at Birmingham AL and a 1961 graduate of Southern Baptist 
Theological Seminary. He and his wife served the Church in Jonesboro, 
Cartersville, Albany, Macon, Smyrna, Marietta, Valdosta and Baltimore MD. In 
Macon GA he served as Minister of Education at Mabel White Baptist Church and 
at Byne Memorial Baptist Church in Albany he had served as Minister of Music, 
Minister of Education, Senior Adult Minister, and upon retirement, was teacher 
of the “Brothers in Christ” Sunday School Class. Rev. Bowman was a man that 
walked with God and his commitment to life was complete surrender and service 
to his Lord and to his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Margaret 
Glidewell Bowman of Albany, 3 daughters: Jane Bowman Tucker and husband Randy 
of Albany, Myra Bowman Lee and husband Chuck of Hawaii, and Anna Bowman Roberts 
and husband Robbie of Macon; 5 grandchildren: Carrie Pirtle and husband Jon of 
Louisville KY, Brooke Elder and husband Tate of Nashville TN, Amanda Morris of 
Douglasville, Jamie Roberts of Atlanta, and Clayton Roberts of Macon; 3 great-
grandchildren: Taylor Harrell, Abigail Elder and Olivia Elder; a brother, 
Albert Bowman of Hewitt TX; 2 sisters: Louise Bowman Minor of Tarrant City AL, 
and Evelyn Bowman Dumas of Birmingham AL. The family will receive friends 3 PM 
to 5 PM Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors. In lieu 
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Living the Legacy, Byne 
Memorial Baptist Church, 2832 Ledo Rd., Albany, GA 31707.
