Jayne Powell Chapman

ST. SIMONS ISLAND —Jayne Powell Chapman of St. Simon Island died Saturday, 
October 26, 2002. She was born August 26, 1921, in Thomasville.

Jayne spent her early years in Albany attending Dougherty County schools and 
graduating from Albany High School. She continued her growing interest in 
church and religious work by attending Asbury College in Kentucky. She 
continued her interest in religious activities through the Christian Council of 
Women and later in Habitat for Humanity in Georgia and Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Chapman, who is buried in 
Atlanta. She is survived by her brother, Jack (Anita) Powell of Hoover, AL, and 
two sons, Larry (Cindy) Chapman of Safety Harbor, FL, and Alan Chapman of 
Ashville, NC, and five grandchildren.

Recently she resided in St. Simons Island. Graveside funeral services will be 
conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Westview Cemetery in 
Atlanta. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 
St. Simons By The Sea Methodist Church in St. Simons Island, GA.
