James Davis ALBANY — The funeral service of Mrs. Mary B. James Davis of Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd., Blakely, GA, who died Sabbath, April 29, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, GA, was held Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church in Blakely. Melvyn Warfield officiated. Interment in St. Matthew Cemetery, Blakely. A native of Early County, Blakely, GA, she was born November 8, 1924, the second child of three (3) to John and Alma James. Her parents and two brothers, Leroy and Jesse "Johnny Hope", preceded her in death. Mrs. Davis was joined in Holy Matrimony to Dennie C. Davis on December 21, 1940. To this union, eight children were born. Her early Christian experience started in childhood at Hayes Grove now St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Mt. Olive Baptist Church. During the late eighties, she encountered a life changing Biblical teaching that resulted in her humbling herself to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Because of her love for God, she made the decision to obey all of His commandments, including the fourth one- the Sabbath commandment, and was baptized into the fellowship of the Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church under the leadership of Elder Oscar Sherrod. She served as church clerk. Mrs. Davis was a nurturing homemaker and worked untiringly for her family and the Tracy Moulton Family. She retired in 1989. Survivors include: her husband, eight (8) children, Mary Lois Davis and Willie C. (Jean) Davis of Blakely, Freddie Davis, Perth Amboy of New Jersey, Walter E. (Annette) Davis of Albany, Mary Ellen Pittman of Philadelphia, Pa., Barbara (Jeff) Trumbore and Jo Evelyn (Nathaniel) Hollis of Atlanta and Dennis (Pamela) Davis of Albany; 14 grandchildren, Dennis Christopher Reddick, Walter Wallace (Chris) Reddick, Fredricka (Andrew) Brackins, Renee (Marlin) Beauford, Kim (Edward) Williams, Kevin (Pat) Davis, Diedral Holmes, Willie C. Jr. (Rita), Cory Davis, Christopher Davis, Nathaniel Hollis II, Cheryle (Dontavis) Lakes, Joe Nathan Hollis and Courtney Davis; eighteen (18) great-grandchildren.
