June 10 - (Special) - O. E. Mattox, a revivalist singer, was found dead on the streets here this morning having taken an overdose of chloral. He came in last night on the freight train, evidently under the influence of the drug and going to the drug store of Hill & King, bought an ounce of bromo-chloral. After talking to Mr. King a few moments, he asked if Dr McClain was at home, and making the statement that he would go up and spend the night with him, left. His body was found this morning on the road and near Dr. McClain's residence with the wrapper of the chloral bottle in his hand and the bottle about one half full lying near. He assisted in a revival meeting here only a few weeks ago and was on his way to assist in the Methodist meeting now going on at Camilla. He has been in bad health for some time and had the appearance of having had a great sorrow some time in life.
