Viola Evelyn Garvue

ALBANY — Viola Evelyn Garvue, 91, of Albany, former resident of Minneapolis, 
Minnesota, and West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away Saturday, December 28, 
2002, at Palmyra Medical Centers where she had been hospitalized for a short 
time. She had been a resident of Palmyra Nursing Home for several months. The 
remains have been cremated and will be scattered at a later date in Minneapolis.

Mrs. Garvue was the daughter of the late Genevieve Mabel Pitsor and George 
Thornton, was born on October 23, 1911, in Timberlake, South Dakota. She was 
educated in the Mobridge, South Dakota, public schools.

After her marriage, she was employed by Honeywell Inc. in Minneapolis until her 
retirement in 1974 when she became a resident of West Palm Beach, FL. Mrs. 
Garvue was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Garvue; her parents; a 
sister, Genevieve Thornton Phoel; two brothers, Guy L. Thornton and Freemont P. 
Thornton.

Survivors include three nieces, Mary Suby of Palm Harbor, FL, Bobbie Hawkins 
Lyons of Troy, AL, and Patsy Hawkins Minton of Charlotte, North Carolina; three 
nephews, Leroy Thornton of Archer, Iowa, George Thornton of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 
and Richard L. Hawkins of Albany, GA.
