Peyton Cook Greaves

ALBANY — The Episcopal funeral service of Peyton Cook Greaves, Ph.D., 74, of 
Albany who died Monday, January 6, 2003, will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at 
the family church, Chapel of the Cross, in Madison, MS. The Rev. David 
Christian will officiate.

Dr. Greaves was born and spent his formative years growing up in Jackson, MS. 
He graduated from Central High School, attended Ole Miss at Oxford, where he 
was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and received his doctorate from the 
University of Southern Mississippi. In later years, he taught both at 
Vanderbilt University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Greaves 
served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Turner 
Field. Dr. Greaves had resided in Albany for many years before moving to 
Franklin, TN, to practice. He practiced for over thirty years, part of that 
time in Albany. Dr. Greaves returned to the Albany area three years ago.

Survivors include six daughters, Julia Read Salter and Carlton Edwards, both of 
Albany, Mamie Gray Clark, Katie Douglas Rozell and Delia Williams Frazier, all 
of Cartersville and Bridget Peyton Wilson of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Elmore 
Douglas Greaves II of Madison, MS; a sister, Joyce Greaves Stewart of Jackson, 
MS; an uncle, Hartwell Cook of Jackson, MS; 11 grandchildren; five great-
grandchildren; six nieces and three nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright-
Ferguson at Parkway.
