She departed this life on September 21, 2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. She joined Friendship Baptist Church in Cuthbert at an early age and served faithfully until she moved away. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1905 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Albany with interment in Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Rd. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Simmons officiating. Irma was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Charles Harpe on the 6th day of March 1946. Due to his military career, they traveled extensively and lived in many places, including several countries in Europe. Their longest stay in one place was three years in Austria. After moving to Albany in 1975, she and her husband joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Senior Choir and Missionary Circle One until her health failed. She attended Albany State and Temple Universities. Her educational and work experiences were limited because they were constantly moving to new locations. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Charles Harpe; nieces, Louise Bailey Webb, Mary Bailey Golden (Joseph); Special caretaker niece, Patricia Solomon Marcus (Clifford) and nephew, Robert Bailey (Georgina); special caretaker great nieces, Frances Webb Davis (Donell) and Sandra J. Webb; additional great nieces, Gloria Webb Brown, Carolyn Webb Reid (Prince), Paulette Webb Cooper, Beverly Bailey, Minister Loraine Bailey Graves (Ben), Deborah Bailey Boston and Kimberly Tookes; great-nephews, Dr. Melvin Webb (Brenda), William Webb (Sandra K.), Cedric Webb, Michael Webb, Michael Denard (Tina), Alonzo Bailey, Thomas Bailey Jr., Bobby Christopher Bailey, Paul Bailey, Robert Lavert Bailey and the Sandlin sisters and brothers; in-laws: brother-in-law, Julius Harpe of Elizabethtown, KY; sister-in-law, Louise H. Green of Stone Mountain; nieces, Jacqueline G. Richards (Johnny), Yolonda Rome and Angel Harpe; nephews, James A. Harpe, Charles Harpe, Dennis Harpe, Robert J. Harpe, Darron Harpe, Tony Harpe, Herbert Edwards, Danny Aleywine and Charles Michael Green. Family members live in Albany and several cities across the United States. In addition, several great-great nieces, nephews and cousins survive her. All of her sisters and brothers and a number of nieces and nephews preceded her in death.
