The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Thankful Baptist Church Hwy. 91, Newton, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Wadis Williams will officiate. Born November 4, 1927, in Baker County, Mr. Hawkins attended Baker County public schools and Albany Technical College. He was a production worker for MacGregor Golf Company and was an Army veteran. Mr. Hawkins was a member of Thankful Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Charlie Harris, Lee Ernest Hawkins and Orlando Hawkins, all of Albany; five daughters, Mattie Pearl and Willie Hawkins of Charlotte, NC, Bessie and Chris Moreland, Terethia White and Gail Hawkins, all of Newton, Jennifer and Jimmy Vickers of Mulberry, FL; his mother, Eva Mae Hawkins of Newton; two brothers, Josh Hawkins of Newton and Willie Hawkins of Pelham; sisters, Sophia Hardwick of Winter Garden, FL, Bertha Crumbley of Pelham, Mae Frances Nelson of Newton, Viester Demps of Shinglesburg, PA, Mary and Eddie Windom, Polores and James Dunham and Ethel and Willie Hannah, all of Rochester, NY; 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The remains of Mr. Hawkins will be placed in the church Saturday from 3 p.m. until the funeral hour.
