James SYLVESTER — Johnny L. James, 59, of N. Henderson St., Sylvester, died Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shingler, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Charlie James Sr. officiating. Born on June 7, 1948 in Worth County, GA, Mr. James was educated in the Worth County Public School System. He was a produce truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star w/ combat “V”, Vietnam service medal w/ 1 star, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Bronze Star, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He was a manager of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shingler, where he served as a member of the Usher Board. Survivors include his wife, Allie Pearl James; four daughters, Yolanda Kendrick of Sylvester, Kendra Wilson of Albany, Latrelle Gowdy of Columbus, and Tiffany James of Leesburg; four sisters, Martha Stevenson, Deloris Harris, Catherine Crapps, all of Sylvester, Leola P. Hall of Atlanta; three brothers, Charlie James of Sylvester, Ruben James of College Park, and Art James of Fayetteville, GA; and seven grandchildren.
