The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Sasser, Terrell County, where the Rev. Angelo Tumblin is pastor. The Rev. Marcus Glass, pastor of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dawson, where Deacon King was a member, will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Dawson. He was educated in the public schools of Stewart County, and worked as a farmer sharecropping for many years, and eventually he obtained his own farm in Sasser. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Syrea Green King of Richland in 1926. This union was blessed with 14 children. All 14 are still living. Deacon and Mrs. King was honored in Jet Magazine when they celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary on April 4, 2001. Deacon King leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and dedicated wife of 76 years, Syrea King of Sasser; 14 children, Henry King (Flossie) of Albany, Lula Mae Massey of Atlanta, Mildred Owens (Bonny) of Albany, John Rufus King (Marie) of Sasser, Murdis Alston (William), and Melva King, both of Newark, NJ, Laura Bob (the Rev. Albert Bob, Jr.) of Sasser, Deacon Tyree King Jr. (Joann) of Newark, Birdie David (Wilmon), Mellean Davis (Walter) of Sasser, Bernice Kendrick (John) of Albany, Joseph King, Daniel King (Joan) and Floyd King, all of Sasser; a loving sister, Ophelia King of Albany; one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law, both of Albany; 64 grandchildren, 114 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
