The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today graveside in Pelham Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Beauchamp will officiate. Born May 30, 1919, in Whiteville, NC, to the late Manley Wescott Ray and the late Bessie Kate High Ray, Mrs. Lee had been a resident of Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus for several years. She was formerly a longtime resident of Atlanta and a native of Whiteville, NC. Jewell was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, the Rev. Roy Lee. The consummate pastor’s wife, together they ministered to churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia for many decades. After graduating from business school, she earned an Associate’s degree from Mars Hill College. The Rev. and Mrs. Lee were members of Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur, GA, where Jewell was devoted to her beloved Grace Bible Class. Survivors include her son, R.J. “Jerry” Lee and wife, Anne Sturtevant of Chamblee; daughter, Linda Lee Newman and husband, Bill of Albany; brother, Royce J. Ray and wife, Patricia of Whiteville, NC; grandchildren, Cater Lee Swartzlander of LaCanada, CA, Derek Lee, Jordan Lee and Shannon Glover Bishop of the metro Atlanta area, Brannon Glover of Albany and Jeremy Lee of Macon. There are also seven great-grandchildren and other relatives, including nephew, Jay Ray of Honolulu, HI, and niece, Amy Ray Schnitzer of Petaluma, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jewell Ray Lee can be made to the Magnolia Manor Foundation, 101 S. Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709.
