Lewis SYLVESTER — John L. Lewis, 79, of S. Henderson St., Sylvester, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, at First African Baptist Church, Sylvester, with interment in Shepard Memorial Gardens in Sylvester. The Rev. Terrell Carter will officiate. Born January 31, 1928, in Turner County, Mr. Lewis was educated in the Worth County Public School System. He was a machine operator with Worth Milling Company in Sylvester. Survivors include eight daughters, Geraldine McKnight of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Sherry Lewis of Albany, Anita Brown, Brenda Morris, Annette Bullington, Gwendolyn Lewis, Ethel Barber, Sarah Jones, all of Sylvester; an adopted daughter, Rosetta Dunham of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; five sons, David Lewis of Tifton, Charles Lewis of Albany, Rickey Lewis Sr. of Columbus, Jeremy Blake and Michael Moore, both of Sylvester; two sisters, Thelma Washington of Toledo, OH, and Edna Mae Walker of Valdosta; his very special secretary, Courtnie Walker; 34 grandchildren; 57 great- grandchildren.
