Frank Faison Middleton Jr of Albany died on August 27, 2006, at Morningside Assisted Living. His funeral service will be at 11 AM Tuesday (today) at Covenant Presbyterian Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. William D. Coker and Rev. Walter Flint Officiating. A lifelong resident of Albany, Mr. Middleton was born April 24, 1913, the son of Frank Faison Middleton and Martha Fleck VanHouten Middleton. He graduated from Albany High School in 1930 and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Emory University in 1934, where he was a member of ATO fraternity. Mr. Middleton married his high school sweetheart Eleanor Joy Miller on Oct. 31, 1936. He served his country in the US Army during WWII with the 209th Hospital Shop Complement. After leaving the European theater in 1945, he was honorably discharged as a decorated veteran in February of 1946. He succeeded his father as the owner/operator of Albany Drug Co. and Palmyra Pharmacy. He devoted much of his energy and resources to the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Treasurer and hIstorian for many years, also volunteering his time and talents to the downtown outreach cener organizsed by the then five downtown churches. He was a longtime active member of the Lions Club of Albany, the Flint Skeet and Trap Club and the YMCA. He enjoyed hunting birds and playing golf and was a member of the Doublegate Country Club. His hobbies also included coin collecting and genealogical research, serving as a volunteer in the Genealogy room of the Albany Public Library. More recently he enjoyed membership in the Golden Key Kiwanis Club and the Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was, like many in his Greatest Generation, a veteran, a proud citizen of State and COuntry, a teacher through is actions, a hard worker by his nature, an unselfish giver of his time and his resources, a true friend, an honest small businessman, a dedicated and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Middleton was a devoted family man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years and his sister Mary Key Hutton. He is survived by two children, Joy Middleton Carver and her husband, Buckett and Dr. Frank Middleton III and his wife Pam; a beloved niece, Katrina Hutton Lewis of Cordele; six grandchildren, John Thomas Rutland IV, Frank Middleton Rutland, Margaret Middleton Hatcher, Frank Faison Middleton IV, Sarah Middleton Vrolijk, Banks Middleton Margeson; nine great-grandchildren, Chrostopher Lane Hatcher, John Taylor Hatcher, Benjamin Allen Hatcher, Jacob Middleton Vrolijk, Catherine Eleanor Vrolijk, Anna Banks Vrolijk, Frank Faison Middleton V, William Boles Middleton and Richman Brooks Margeson.
