Ralney, Sr. CORDELE — J.D. Rainey, Sr.,96, died at Cordelia Manor in Cordele Tuesday, July 25,2006. Mr.Rainey was born Wednesday, November 10, 1909 in Perry and was the son of the Late William McMurray Rainey and Florine Jennings Culler Rainey. He is a graduate of Perry High School and Gupton-Jones School of Embalming. Mr. Rainey was a retired funeral director and founder of Rainey Family Funeral Services. He was the oldest funeral director in the state of Georgia. Mr. Rainey was the 1968 president of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers, a member of the Georgia Funeral Directors association, the nation- al Funeral Directors Association and the Independent Funeral Directors Association. He was a former city commissioner and a member of the Cordele Lions Club for 66 years. Mr. Rainey was the oldest active member of Cordele First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Class. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Rainey Funeral Services Thursday, July 27,2006 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele. He is survived by his children; Aubrey Derrilldine Jackson and her husband, Jackie and James Derille Rainey, Jr. and his wife, Judy, all of Cordele; grandchildren, Johnny C. Jackson and his wife, Connie of Collierville, TN, Tony Jackson and his wife. Lisa of Kennesaw, Wesley Rainey and his wife, Tina, and Cynthia Elaine Clifton and her husband, Teddy, all of Cordele, and Angela Leigh Young and her husband, Tommy of Macon; and great-grandchildren, Jessica Jackson and Johanna Jackson, both of Collierville, TN, Emma Jackson and Chandler Jacksoh, both of Kennesaw, Trent Miles, Madison Miles and Nate Miles, all Of Macon, and Wade Rainey of Cordele. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jessie Cleo Smith Rainey, sisters; Marylou Rainey Fudge,Willerien Overstreet, Florine Culler Rainey, Aubrey Estelle Rainey, and Doris Houser Rainey Hane and brothers; William McMurray Rainey,Jr., and Edgar Leigh Rainey.
