Sims FITZGERALD — Davis C. Sims, 80, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, December 15, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, both in Fitzgerald. Born on September 19, 1922 in Oglethorpe County, GA, Mr. Sims was the son of the late Selma S. Sims and Cornelia Stewart Sims. He was a retired conductor for the CSX Railroad and was a realtor with Roanoke Realty. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Sims had lived in Fitzgerald most of his life. He was well known for his sky diving and parachutist accomplishments, including the 13th U.S. Military and Civilian with 3000 parachutes jumps. He was a sky diving instructor. He also was a Pioneer Free Fall Parachutist, a member of the U.S. Parachute Association and the South Georgia Parachutist Association. He was a member of VFW and American Legion and former member of the Jaycees and the Fitzgerald Rotary Club. He was also a member of South Georgia Touring Club and he was a Mason and Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Sims of Fitzgerald; a son, Alan C. Sims of Valdosta; a daughter, Vicki S. Harris of Fitzgerald; a brother, Max Sims of Augusta; a sister, Lou S. Turk of Waycross; two stepsons, Jimmy St. John of Fitzgerald and Joey and his wife, Tracy St. John of Box Springs, GA; grandchildren, Pam Langley and Chip Harris; and great-grandchild, Taylor Morgan. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his stepmother, Estelle H. Sims, and two brothers, Weldon and David Sims. Visitation will be held today (Monday), from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
