Murray L. Smith

AMERICUS — Murray L. Smith, 71, of Plains, died at his residence early Sunday 
morning, January 26, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today 
from Plains United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rodney Porter and the Rev. 
Jay Reppert officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery near Plains.

Mr. Smith, a native of Sumter County, was born January 19, 1932, a son of the 
late Wilburn Edgar Smith and Frances Allethea "Miss Allie" Murray Smith. For 
the past seventeen years, he had served as the associate pastor of Union United 
Methodist Church in Draneville. He was a retired teacher and coach in the 
Sumter County and Marion County School systems, and was a member of Plains 
United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, 
P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709, Union United Methodist Church, Buena Vista, 
GA 31803 or to Plains United Methodist Church, U.S. Hwy. 280, Plains, GA 31780.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Donnan Smith of Plains; a daughter, LeAnne 
Smith Feltman of Plains; three sons and two daughters-in-law, "Chuck" Smith of 
Americus, Captain Steven R. and Julia M. Smith of LaPlata, MD, and Edgar M. and 
Awbrey Smith of Savannah; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosalynn and Jimmy 
Carter of Plains and Allethea and Lee Wall of McDonough; a brother, Jerry Smith 
of Plains; three grandchildren, Tavish Smith and Savannah Smith, both of 
LaPlata, MD, and Kelly Feltman of Plains; and a number of nieces and nephews.
