Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Donalsonville today at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tommy Dobbins and Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. Interment will follow at Brown United Methodist Church cemetery in Ozark, AL, at 4 p.m. EST. Mr. Spivey was born on July 25, 1939, in Blue Springs, Alabama, to the late Floyd and Versie Benefield Spivey. He graduated Blue Springs High School in 1957, and Troy State University in Troy, AL, in 1961, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education. He married the former Patricia Adkins on August 6, 1961. He received his Masters of Science Degree in Science from Birmingham Southern and an Administration Degree from Troy State University at Fort Rucker. He completed additional studies at Clemson University. Mr. Spivey taught in Jakin from 1961-1963 before transferring to Baker County High in 1963 and teaching there until 1965 when he came to Seminole County. He served the Seminole County system from 1965 until his retirement in 1999. While here, he taught high school math and science and then served as middle school principal from 1981-1999. Mr. Spivey was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Donalsonville, where he served as a deacon and taught the Whit Aiken Sunday School class. He was an avid golfer, a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Spivey leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Patricia Adkins Spivey; a daughter, Suzanne Kelly, both of Donalsonville, GA; a son and his wife, Michael and Wendy Spivey of Luverne, AL; a brother and his wife, Glenward and Donna Spivey of Montgomery, AL; two grandchildren, Alex Kelly and Kelsey Spivey, as well as two nephews, Matthew and Mark Spivey. Pallbearers will be Louis Bonner, E.C. Bridges, Steve Amerison, Joe Burke, Gerald Miller, Chason Trawick, Jesse McLeod and John Pickren. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church and the members of the Whit Aiken Sunday School class.
