The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Nathan Godley will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. Sweat was born in Dougherty County, the son of Maxwell, Sr. and Cleone Rouse Sweat. After graduating from Albany High School, he attended North Georgia College for two years before joining the U.S. Army at the end of World War II to serve in Italy. Upon completion of his military duty, he earned his degree from the University of Georgia. He was accepted to the Medical College of Georgia and received his M.D. degree in 1956. Internship and pediatric experience was gained at Macon Hospital, Macon, GA; Talmadge Hospital, Augusta, GA, and at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA. From 1959 until his retirement in 19991, he practiced Pediatrics in Albany, was a member of the Dougherty County Medical Society and served on the staff of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. In addition to his practice, Dr. Sweat also served as a clinician at the Kiwanis Clinic for Children, the Crippled Children's Clinic and the Dougherty County Health Department Pediatric Clinic. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Faye Hamilton Sweat of Leesburg, GA; a son and his wife, Maxwell III and Lori Sweat of Bristol, TN; four daughters, Linda Fletcher of Lee County, Helen MacGregor and her husband, Michael of St. Simons, GA, Anne Baker and her husband, Bill of Bishop, GA, and Marsha Capp of Cumming, GA; and ten grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Mathews Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Albany Community Hospice, P.O.
