Clements Everson lorieeverson@bellsouth.net January 4, 2012, 9:12 am Mathews Funeral Home Transcribed by Lorie Everson Adelyn Pate Whiting, 89, died Wednesday, December 02, 2009 at Morningside of Albany.  She was the youngest child of Thomas Elijah Pate and Gertrude Jackson Pate and was born on October 5, 1920 in Albany, GA.  She attended Albany schools, graduating from Albany High School in 1937 and continued her education at Huntington College in Montgomery, AL.  While at Albany High, she was selected as Miss U-Save-Drugs and was selected as Miss Albany IN 1937. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Albany.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.  Dr. Don Adams will officiate.  A private entombment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. In 1938, she married Deming Whiting of Camilla, GA, a marriage of almost 60 years that ended with his death in 1996.  She is survived by a son, Julian Deming Whiting, Jr., and his wife, Ruth of Albany, GA, a daughter, Martha Whiting Rush of Tallahassee, FL and her husband, John, five grandchildren, Rebecca Upton Cates and her husband, Cris of Albany, GA, Hollis Whiting Mayher and her husband, Brant of Simpsonville, SC, Julian Deming “Jay” Whiting, III, and his wife, Tori, Frances Whiting Campbell and her husband, Stewart and Katherine Whiting Henry and her husband, Bo all of Albany, GA, as well as step-grandchildren, Ken Drawdy, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie of Albany, GA and Chris Rush and his wife, Rachel of Phelan, CA.  Great- grandchildren include, Jessica and Charlotte Cates of Athens, GA, Richmond and Pate Mayher of Simpsonville, SC, Church Whiting of Albany, GA and Finn Campbell of Albany, GA and step-great-grandchildren, Daylor Drawdy, Abi Drawdy, Thomas Sullivan of Albany, GA and Tara and Rhiannon Rush of Phelan, CA and a special caregiver, Beatrice Bullock (Miss B). Mrs. Whiting was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Fellowship Class, which her husband taught for many years.  She was also a member of the Town and Country Garden Club, Albany Hospital League, Junior League of Albany, Thronateeska DAR, Albany Junior Woman’s Club, a Golden Key volunteer and the Phoebe Northwest Golden Striders.
