He received his BS degree from North Georgia College in 1952, and received his MS degree from the University of Florida in 1957, and received his Specialist degree from the University of Georgia in 1969 in psychology. Mr. Yaw came to Albany in 1961 to join the Dougherty County School System. He coached football, basketball, and baseball at Albany High School and Dougherty High School. He served as the school psychologist for the school system from 1969 to 1995. He spent a total of 37 years in education, 33 years in the Dougherty County School System. Mr. Yaw was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served on the vestry, superintendent of the Sunday School Department, and chairman of the ushers. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, spending time with family, fishing, and volunteering. He started the meals to go project for homebound members of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Annie Yaw, and his first wife, Bettye Nasbitt Yaw. The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 PM. His funeral service will be WEDNESDAY 1 PM at St. Paul''s Episcopal Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dudley H. Lippitt and the Rev. Dr. James M. Ramsey will officiate.
