Mr. Fay Lloyd (Little Boy) Appling of Douglasville died Saturday, July 19, 
2003. He was born in Atlanta along with his twin brother Ray Floyd on July 22, 
1923. He was one of seven children born to Samuel Thomas and Helen Odessa 
Price Appling of Atlanta. In 1943 Fay joined the U.S. Army. He was one of the 
five Appling Brothers who served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Fay served in 
China, Burma and India in Company B-100 7th Combat Engineer B.N. "SS". He 
served side by side with his twin brother where they helped build the bridge 
over the Irrawaddy River on the route used by military convoy to get supplies 
from Burma into China. After his return he married Dora Mae Brooks on October 
25, 1947. Fay retired after 30 years from Akers Motor Line in 1975 and soon 
after he and Dora moved to Dayton Beach, FL to spend their retirement and 
later returned home to Georgia in 1991. He is survived by his wife of over 55 
years, Dora Mae Brooks Appling, Douglasville, son, Sandy Appling and Connie 
LaCoe of Iva, SC, daughter, Kathy and John W. Chandler, Douglasville, 
daughter, Susan and Jerry Westbrooks, Seffner, FL, brother, Buford Allen 
Appling, Dacula, sister, Joyce Wyatt, Hapeville, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2003 from 9 A.M. to 
8 P.M. at Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, Hapeville, 404-761-2171. Service will be 
held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 which would have been his 80th 
birthday at Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, interment College Park Cemetery
