This happened about 12 o'clock and his body was taken out about dusk some 50 or 60 yards below the ford. The stream was considerably swollen at the time. A gentleman upon the shore succeeded in rescuing Shannon's horse but was not able to render Shannon any assistance in time to save his life. ------ NEWSPAPER Issue of Friday, JANUARY 28, 1881 We learn that a man named Bud Shannon was drowned in Dog River one day last week. He leaves a wife and two children. We learn that he is the seventh person drowned at this ford.
