Mr. Chancey's father was not only a successful merchant in Blakely, but filled many important offices in the county, and represented it a number of years in the general assembly. Mr. Chancey received a fair common-school education, and when he reached manhood engaged in farming, which he still continues. He has held the office of justice of the peace six years. In 1893 he was elected ordinary of the county, an office which he still holds. Mr. Chancey was married in 1877 to Miss Elizabeth Minter, of Early county, by whom he has had three children: Alpheus Baker, born in February, 1878; Lawton Eugene, born in 1886, and Hattie May.
