This name was suggested by Mrs. Julia Brooks, who is now one of the oldest members of the church. The church was organized, constituted and built prior to 1894, with the following names among the first members: Mrs. J. T. Steadham, Brother Ben Bailey and wife, Miss Beulah Bailey, Mrs. Lucy Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Taylor. Rev. Poole and Morgan were present at the organization. Hillside Baptist Church was dedicated June 23rd, 1894. Jack Culbreth was the messenger attending the association at this meeting. In 1905 Hillside left the Bethel Association and joined the Bowen Association. After seven years a member of the Bowen Association it returned to Bethel and has been identified with Bethel Association since that date. The following pastors have served the Hillside Baptist Church since its organization: R. C. Poole, J. E. Dykes, W. O. Crumbley, P.C. Barkley, T. M. Thomas, J. P. Sauls, H. M. Melton, D. E. Blalock, P. M. Sawyer and Charles Allen. The church Clerks who have served are given below: Sam Baylor, W. P. Lewis, D. L. Patrick, J. H. Strickland, Henry Stamps, T. D. Armstrong and J. M. Garrett. For a number of years Hillside Baptist Church had a regularly organized and working Sunday School, but owing to the lack of interest manifested among the young people in the community the Sunday School has been disbanded. The total membership of the church is 91.
