Her friends brought in eight mules and two tractors and broke and planted her land. Neighboring women helped with cooking, washing and ironing. NOTHING TOPS GOOD NEIGHBOR, SAYS WOMAN AIDED BY FRIENDS by Amelia H. Barksdale State News Correspondent Blakely, April 9. "There's nothing to equal a good neighbor," says Mrs. Addie Mock, widow who lives in the Hentown Community, six miles below Blakely. Mrs. Mock had been doing well for the last two years, farming her 35-acre farm with the help of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Lindsey, but there has been sickness since the first of February and none of the ground had been broken for Spring planting. Mrs. Mock, who is 64 years old, has been in Blakely Hospital while her daughter, Wilda, has been in a Donalsonville Hospital. Sunday, at the Hentown Church of Christ, Morris Lindsey and Clarence Harper told the other men who were gathered outside the church of Mrs. Mock's plight, and in a few minutes over a dozen had pledged their help for Thursday afternoon. Besides Mr. Lindsey and Mr. Harper, others helping were Hoke Jordan, F.H. Hollington, S.H. Lindsey, Collie Houston, James Rabon, Luther Waller, J.T. Cannon, Idus Waller. The brought eight mules and two tractors to beak land and plant cotton and corn. Ladies helping in the house with the cooking, washing, and ironing were Mrs. Bradley Mock, Mrs. John Ivy Cooper and Mrs. Morris Lindsey. The farm is their only livelihood. Mrs. Mock was at a loss to know how the crops could be planted last week, but today the ground is ready and most of the seed is planted, due to the group of "real" neighbors. ____________________________ Mrs. Addie Mock was born April 17, 1885 in Early County, Georgia.
