W. Bridges Dies After Illness Of Several Weeks. Had Been Resident Of This City For Nearly Half A Century. Succumbing to an illness of several weeks' duration, Mr. James William Bridges died at his home in this city at 3:45 o'clock the past Saturday afternoon. Mr. Bridges' death was attributed to heart trouble. Born in Randolph county on October 1, 1868, Mr. Bridges, who was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Z. T. Bridges, was 76 years of age. He came to Blakely 47 years ago to make his home and had engaged during that time in various business enterprises, in recent years devoting his efforts to farming. He was a member of the Blakely Baptist Church. Of a friendly nature and possessed of a keen sense of humor, Mr. Bridges had made many friends who received with sadness the news of his passing. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Minter Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Alton Davis officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery, with the Minter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Serving as pall-bearers were the following nephews of the deceased: A. B. Dozier, Pat Dozier, L. R. Dozier, L. B. Bridges, Frank B. Bridges, Bradley Bridges, Champ Bridges and Herbert Bridges. The large number of friends attending the last rites and the lovely floral offerings attested the esteem in which Mr. Bridges was held. Surviving Mr. Bridges are his wife, Mrs. Gena Houston Bridges; four sons, U. Z. Bridges of Blakely, J. W. Bridges and Joseph Thomas Bridges, both of the U. S. Navy; one daughter, Mrs. W. S. Davis of Savannah; two brothers, J. Oscar Bridges of Blakely and Dr. E. C. Bridges of Donalsonville; and two sisters, Mrs. Nettie B. Coachman of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Emma Dozier of Damascus, Ga.
