Hazel Shepard Hudspeth Mrs. Hazel Shepard Hudspeth, 78, a well known and highly regarded Blakely lady, a descendant of a prominent Southwest Georgia family died in the Early Memorial Hospital Thursday, August 22, 1985, following a long illness. Mrs. Hudspeth had lived most of her life in Early County, the widow of John Hudspeth and was born in Miller County September 26, 1906, the daughter of William Byrd Shepard and Lizzie McNair Shepard. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blakely and a charter member of the Blakely Garden Club. She was a gifted flower Gardner, and was recognized wherever she was known as a raiser of prize roses. The casket was covered with beautiful roses grown in her own garden and the flower garden of her brother, B. B. Shepard of Leary. The final rites were held in the Blakely cemetery late Friday afternoon with her pastor, Dr. J. O. Dorriety, officiating. Grandsons of the deceased served as pall bearers. Survivors are two sons, Dr. E. B. Hudspeth, Macon, William B. Hudspeth, Blakely; three daughters, Mrs. Mamie Scott, Alexander City, Ala.; Mrs. Angie Waggoner, Charlotte, N. C.; Mrs. Patricia Helton, Rocky Face, Ga.; one brother, B. B. Shepard, Leary; one sister, Mrs. Roy Pullen, Statesboro; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
