M. For Carl H. Lanier Damascus, Ga. - Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, 3 o'clock in the Damascus Methodist Church for Carl Hamilton Lanier, 66, who died at his residence here late Tuesday night. Mr. Lanier had been ill for several weeks. A native and life-long resident of Early County, he was born February 2, 1892, and was a son of T. J. and Lula Coleman Lanier. He had engaged in farming and was chief of police in Damascus for 15 years. He was prominent in the affairs of this community and held in high esteem by his friends. Mr. Lanier's funeral was held in the Damascus Methodist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. I. M. McDuffie and the Rev. Guy Walton officiating. Interment was in Blakely Cemetery. Bryan Funeral Home directing and Joe Bryan, W. T. Dowdy, Lamar Billings, Liston Radney, and E. R. Pullen serving as active pall-bearers. An honorary escort comprised W. H. Haddock, Bert Tarver, Sid Howell, Mal Simmons, Tom Metts Pullen, Cecil Godwin, Johnny Webb, Roy Pullen, Edwin Hunter and Ira Walton. Surviving Mr. Lanier are his widow, Mrs. Ella Loyless Lanier; three daughters, Mrs. David Billings, of Damascus, Mrs. Willis Pittman, of Bainbridge, and Mrs. C. C. Clarke, Jr. of Atlanta.
