Early County News Volume LVIII No. 38 May 9, 1918 Blakely, Early Co., GA Idell Loyless Is Shot By A. M. Walker Attacked Without Warning At Fort Gaines Theatre Last Saturday Afternoon. Mr. B. Idell Loyless, of Fort Gaines, was shot and seriously wounded about four o'clock last Saturday afternoon, and Mr. A. M. Walker, former resident of Blakely, was lodged in the Clay county jail on a charge of assault with intent to murder. Loyless, who was selling tickets at the Fort Gaines theatre, was hit twice by the shots fired by Walker, one bullet piercing the chest and breaking the collar- bone and the other entering the body beneath the left shoulder. The first shot fired broke the ticket office window of the theatre and particles of the glass so badly damaged Loyless' right eye that it was deemed necessary to remove the eye, the operation being performed Monday at a Cuthbert hospital, where Loyless was carried immediately after being shot. The two bullets which entered the body, while inflicting serious wounds, are not expected to prove fatal and the wounded man was reported Wednesday as resting as well as might be expected. Mr. Loyless, who is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Loyless, of this city, was married several months ago to the former wife of Walker, from whom she was divorced sometime ago. Clay County Sheriff Hamilton had previously arrested Walker and placed him in jail twice, charging him with carrying and threatening, to shoot Loyless.
