Mr. Smith was born February 23, 1927, in Miller County, to the late Russell Wesley Smith and the late Ossie Whittaker Smith. He was the founder and operator of Big Jim's Used Cars, a member of the Camp-O-Tel Camping Club, a member of the Jim Smith Society and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Clifford Moore Smith of Blakely; one son, Jimmy Smith of Dothan; two daughters, Tammy Willis and Shirley Dukes, both of Blakely; two sisters, Essie Sheppard of Colquitt and Geneva Gibson of Sylvester; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, May 24, 2001, at 11 a. m. at the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Lee officiating. Interment followed at the Blakely Cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Davis, Billy Temples, Carl Dixon, Gerald Woodard, Ronald Taylor and Bobby Henderson. Honorary pallbearers were Glynn Enfinger, Charles Shierling, Sonny Rollo, Jackie Lee Clark, Buddy Gentry and Buddy Lucas. Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
