Sharp Dead. In response to a telegram announcing the death of his father, Mr. James E. Sharpe, Mr. W.W. Sharpe left this morning for the home of the deceased at Statenville, in Echols County, where the funeral and interment will occur today. Mr. Charlie M. Sharpe of this city was at the home of his father when the end came yesterday. Mr. Sharpe was 83 years old and had been in declining health for a long time. Besides two sons here, the deceased is survived by a large number of relatives.--Waycross Herald. Additional Comments: The death notice, written in Waycross, did not name James E. Sharpe's family living in Statenville. They included his fourth wife,Kittie Tomlinson Stalvey Sharpe, and four children (from his third marriage to Margaret McKinnon): James John (later sheriff of Echols), Hosea B.B. (later postmaster), Julia and Hattie. James E. Sharpe was born in South Carolina, served in the Mexican War, and was a harnessmaker and justice of the peace.
