EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA - HISTORY Gross Land Grants ***************** Copyright. (Jerry) Braddock, Sr. JBraddock1@aol.com Arthur Gross mapped out Crown grants made in what was once St. Matthews Parish in Georgia. I assume he used the book "English Crown Grants, St. Matthew Parish 1755-1775" and grant records in the Georgia Archives as the basis for the maps. I don't know who Arthur Gross is or was or when and why he made the maps. However, I find the ones I've see very intriguing, not only for generally locating where the grants of my Braddocks and Cooks were and who their neighbors were, but primarily, from seeing all the names on it, I suddenly became aware of what a hotbed of Colonial and Revolutionary history St. Matthews was.
