He fought through many battles in and around Richmond, Fredricksburg, and through the Shenandoah Valley; also through Maryland and into Pennsylvania. On the first day of July, '63, while in command of his gallant company, in charging the enemy, he was shot through the body, killing him instantly. He was buried in a few steps of where he was killed. He married Miss Margaret Eberhart, an excellent lady, who survived him only a few years. They leave one child - George - who lives near Antioch church, and is a good farmer.
