Since all signatures appear to be in different handwriting, it is assumed each person signed personally. While the signatures are difficult to read, the submitter has used his best judgment in the proper spelling. The document is undated but was among other documents from the earliest period of Elbert Co., created Dec. 1790 from Wilkes Co. Practically all of the names shown appear in Elbert Co. deed records in the period 1791-1806. "Elbert County State vs. Angus McDonald & Johnson Hog Stealing "We do not hesitate to recommend Angus McDonald who has been found guilty of the crime charged, and recommended by the Jury to mercy as being a proper subject of Executive Clemency, it having been proven that except the above act he hs uniformly supported an honest and industrious character.
