Mattox of the County of Elbert and State of Georgia on the one part and William G. Bullard of the same place of the other part Witnesseth that the said William G. Bullard in and by his certain promissory note bearing even (?) date with these presents and payable on the tenth day of November next after date stands indebted to the said Henry P. Mattox in the sum of Two Hundred and forty 75/100 Dollars as by reference to the said note will now fully appear Now(?) this Indenture Witnesseth that the said William G. Bullard for and in consideration of the said debt or sum of Two hundred and forty 75/100 Dollars and for better securing the payment thereof with the interest that may accrue thereon according to the tenor and effect of said note and also for and in consideration of the further sum of Ten dollars to him in hand well and truly paid by the said Henry P. Mattox at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents (?) receipts whereof is hereby acknowledged as well as for securing the payment of the aforesaid sum hath granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said Henry P. Mattox his heirs and assigns a certain negro boy named Joshua about ten years old now in the possession of the said William G. Bullard. To have and to hold the said bargained negro slave Joshua and every part thereof unto the said Henry P. Mattox his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use benefits and behoof forever Provided always and it is the express understanding of the parties and the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said William G. Bullard his heirs Executors or Administrators or either of them shall well and truly pay unto the said Henry P. Mattox the aforesaid sum of Two Hundred forty and 75/100 dollars on or before the said tenth day of November next as aforesaid according to the tenor and effect of the promissory note aforesaid sum and thenceforth as well this present Indenture and the right of the property hereby conveyed as the said promissory note and every matter and thing therein contained shall cease and be void and of no effect anything therein contained to the contrary notwithstanding Witness whereof the said William G.
