Gunter to Thomas B. Bullard Mortgage Georgia Elbert County This Indenture made this twenty eighth of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight between James M. Gunter of the County and State aforesaid of the one part and Thomas B. Bullard of the same place Witnesseth that the said James M. Gunter hath this day acknowledged a certain promissory note subscribed with his hand and bearing even date with this presents whereby the said James M. Gunter has promissed too pay the said Thomas B. Bullard or bearer two hundred dollars with interest from the thirteenth day of January last one day after date I promise to pay Richard Huff or bearer the full sum of two hundred dollars for value received 13th January 1838 for an in consideration of the sum of five dollars by the said Thomas B. Bullard to the said James M. Gunter in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as well as for the better securing the payment of the aforesaid promissory note the said James M. Gunter hath granted bargained and sold unto the said Thomas B. Bullard his heirs and assigns one dark bay covering(?) horse called Whip roanaoke two feather beds furniture & stids(?) one pine painted chest one pine table and lot of crockery ware seven chairs one leather covered trunk one small wan(?) one cow and calf one shoot gun & one rifle To have and to hold said bargained property to the said Thomas B. Bullard his heirs and assignes to his and their own proper use benefit and behoof forever and the said James M. Gunter for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators the said bargained property unto the said Thomas B. Bullard will warrant and forever defend against the claim of himself his heirs & assigns the claim of all other persons whatever provided never the less that if the said James M. Gunter his heirs Executors and assigns shall and do well and truly pay or caused to be paid unto the said Thomas B. Bullard his heirs and assigns the aforementioned sum of two hundred dollars with Interest on the day and time mentioned and printed for payment thereof in the said promissory note mentioned with (?) interest for the same according to the tenor of the said note then and from thence forth as well these presents Indenture the right to the property thereby conveyed as the said promissory note shall cease determine & be void to all intents and purposes In testimony whereof the said James M.
